Hong Kong Delegation Achieved Record-breaking Results at the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games
The Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games successfully concluded on 13 October. The Hong Kong Delegation won a record-breaking total of 48 medals, comprising 11 gold, 16 silver and 21 bronze, finishing 10th in the overall medal tally. NG Chak Lin, Chef de Mission of the Hong Kong Delegation commended the athletes for their outstanding performance. “I believe that the public also witnessed the brilliant achievement of Hong Kong athletes. Compared with the previous Games, the number of gold, silver and bronze medals increased. I am satisfied with the results and it is a great encouragement to the Hong Kong Delegation,” he said. The Chef de Mission added that the Home Affairs Bureau launched the Pilot Scheme for Elite Vote Support System for Disability Sports at the end of last year, which enabled athletes to concentrate on the training. The Hong Kong Delegation’s remarkable results reflected the positive effects of the Scheme. He looked forward to the cooperation among various parties during the preparation for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and expected a breakthrough performance.
The Closing Ceremony of the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games took place at the Madya Stadium on 13 October. TANG Shun Yee, lawn bowls athlete who won two gold medals at the Games, was the Flag Bearer of the Hong Kong Delegation and she was grateful to have this opportunity. “I am very honoured to bear the HKSAR flag in front of a large audience for the first time. It was a happy and memorable experience,” she said. As part of the proceedings, Jakarta Governor Anies BASWEDAN passed the Asian Paralympic Committee flag to President Majid RASHED, then it was handed over to WANG Hong, the Deputy Mayor of the next host city Hangzhou.
The Hong Kong Delegation would return with Cathay Pacific Airways flight CX718 in the morning of 14 October and was expected to arrive at 2:20pm (Hong Kong time).
