Team Welcome Ceremony for the Hong Kong Delegation to the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games

The Team Welcome Ceremony for the Hong Kong Delegation to the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games was held at the Para Village today (4 October). NG Chak Lin, Chef de Mission of the Hong Kong Delegation led the athletes, coaches, medical and delegation officials to take part in the Ceremony. He also announced that YU Chui Yee, wheelchair fencing athlete will be the Flag Bearer at the Opening Ceremony to be held on 6 October and lead the Delegation to march-in to the venue.

Athletics, boccia, lawn bowls and table tennis athletes attended the Team Welcome Ceremony, followed by the Flag Raising Ceremony of the HKSAR flag. Moreover, the Organising Committee arranged dance performances and invited all Chef de Missions to exchange souvenirs with Mayor of the Para Village. NG Chak Lin, Chef de Mission of the Hong Kong Delegation announced after the Ceremony that YU Chui Yee, wheelchair fencing athlete will be the Flag Bearer at the Opening Ceremony. “Chui Yee achieved good results in Incheon 2014 Asian Para Games and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Her spirit can represent the Hong Kong Team. Furthermore, she had become full-time athlete under the Pilot Scheme which implied that local development of Para sports is gradually professionalized,” he said.

YU Chui Yee was honoured to be the Flag Bearer at the Opening Ceremony again after the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. She remarked that the role was an important mission as her image would be the first impression of Hong Kong, and hoped to bring the team good luck.

In addition, the teams continued training today. Archery Head Coach MA Choi Chong Patrick shared, “We captured one bronze and one silver in 2010 and 2014 Asian Para Games respectively, and expect to attain better results this time. We don’t want to put too much pressure on the athletes and believe that they will perform well during the matches.”
