Hong Kong Delegation Departed from Hong Kong to the Indonesia 2018 Asian Para Games
The third Asian Para Games will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia from 6 to 13 October. The Hong Kong Delegation attended the Flag Presentation Ceremony at the Hong Kong International Airport and departed to the Games today (2 October), which marked the beginning of the journey.
The Delegation captured 72 medals including 15 gold, 24 silver and 33 bronze in the previous Asian Para Games at Guangzhou and Incheon. Since Table Tennis Mixed TT11 Doubles event of the current Games has been cancelled, athletes WONG Pui Kei and WAN Kwok Ho are not able to compete and Hong Kong finally sent a delegation of 173 members to the Games, including 101 athletes, 72 coaches, medical officials, delegation officials and NPC representatives.
Archery, boccia, lawn bowls, table tennis and tenpin bowling teams which consists of 55 athletes departed to Indonesia this morning, while athletics, swimming, badminton and wheelchair fencing teams took the afternoon flight afterwards. Shooting team will arrive Indonesia in the next few days. As the Send-off Party was cancelled due to Super Typhoon Mangkhut in mid-September, the Flag Presentation Ceremony was held before the departure of the Delegation today. Mrs. Cherry TSE, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs presented the HKSAR flag to Mr. Patrick NG, Chef de Mission, Mr. LEUNG Yuk Wing, boccia athlete and Ms. WONG Ka Man, table tennis athlete.
The teams will join the trainings and classifications in coming days. They will also attend the Team Welcome Ceremony at the Para Village in the afternoon of 4 October and Opening Ceremony at the GBK Main Stadium in the evening of 6 October, while various events of badminton and table tennis will commence in the morning of 6 October. The Closing Ceremony will be held in the evening of 13 October after eight consecutive days of competitions and the Delegation will return to Hong Kong in the next day.
